Bend is tucked aside the eastern foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Canoeists, kayakers, and white water rafters enjoy the myriad of rivers, and high-altitude lakes fed by crystal-clear mountain snow. The Deschutes River, which flows through the heart of town, is renowned for both trout fishing and rafting.
Dozens of alpine lakes and uncounted miles of hiking, riding, and biking trails provide nearly limitless outdoor summertime recreation. Mount Bachelor Ski Resort, located about 25 minutes from the city, as well as the millions of acres of open forests, make Central Oregon a mecca for winter sports.
Bend also offers growing opportunities for higher education. For the college-bound, Bend is host to Oregon State University's Cascades Campus, and Central Oregon Community College.
